Peg 5

4th April 14:00hrs
15ft Salmon Rod, 10lb hooklenth, 40lb Fly Line,
Fly Brandon's Claret
Bait: Casters
Main problem is to start the fish feeding this is overcome by a couple of casters loosefed to right of screen 17-20ft out (do not feed again as it easily gets overfed), when fishing fish to the loosefed area to right, don't leave fly on top of water too long (no longer than 4 mins).
Hitting the fish takes practice strike on second splash not first.

Throw out handfulls of maggots or hemp and after about 1-2 mins you'll be getting fish after fish!

16th August 13:00hrs
15ft Salmon Rod, 7lb hooklenth, 40lb Fly Line. Fly Red Tag
Bait: Hempseed
Doesn't really matter where you fish but weed is a pain as sometimes fly doesn't sink, make sure it does, I fish directly in front about 17ft out, loosefeed hemp every 5 mines till bites start then stop feeding.
Let fly sink and leave on bottom for no more than 4 mins, bites should start within 20 mins then bites will be regular occasionally needs twitching.

Cast between 14ft and 26ft and hold back in midstream

Other flies we know of that work are Black Spider, Blue Upright, Brookes Fancy, Ginger Quill.
Wet or nymphs that work are: Burleigh, Black Spider, Peach Doll, Yellow nobbler, Please note that these are best fished held back in mid water and do not require loose feed.

Ledger the new Bardi Grub and go spinning on ya main rod. I had success with various lures and pulled out a 12lb Golden Perch on the Martin spinner.

River Test

Peg 1

Sinking minnow or Mepps black fury (a fish every cast) Brown trout. -- Tan maggot on float in the dead spot on the far bank (just before Bridge) produces nothing but Grayling- a fish almost every cast. ---and if you want Chub fish the split "C" spinner under the Bridge.

Maggot will catch those Gudgeon - in fact Gudgeon will take anything :-)

River Wyre

notes

Nine pegs in all offering various methods and species. The lower pegs are in the tidal reaches which plays a major factor to fish behaviour. The real venue fishes best over the Winter month's.

All methods of Float fishing work as do ledger tactics - but choosing the correct time of year is important - This is a low temperature venue.
For Chub sweetcorn is a good bait.
Lobworm works well also.
Best bait and method for Pike is - Rolling a smelt along the reed fringes on Fishery Fields 1. With a 13ft ledger rod / 20lb line / 12's hook / no weight just freeline - and smelt on the hook. Bites are regular. April best month.

Fly fishing around the weir works all year.
In summer Irrisistable works well.
Spring - try a nymph
Autumn - good with wet fly
Winter - Zulu will catch fish.

This venue is seasonal
Summer - the weir pegs are best
Autumn - All pegs will produce
Winter - The tidal pegs are best
Spring - Best time on all the course pegs - Best time for Pike also.

BAITS...
Maggot
Caster
Sweetcorn
Lobworm
Mealworm
Smelt
Hemp
Garlic Sausage.

St Micheals 1

Slow and shallow - a mixture of sand and silt on the river bed. Most species will be found. Not a peg for high temperatures - best around April / May or September. Try trotting a float through with maggot. On the right is a small bay where you should find the Bream

St Micheals 2

Another shallow peg and this time you will find more Trout. Trotting works here and try Fly fishing down the long straight. Good Chub and Dace are present.

St Micheals
3 & 4

Pure Fly fishing on these two pegs - A small weir with a fast shallow scree in the run off. Rainbow & Brownies with Salmon will be found.
Summer month's productive.

St Micheals 5

A mixture of course & game - both methods work well - Trotting a float through will get those Chub & Roach - Fly fishing for Trout and big ones can be found.
A Spring & Autumn peg.

St Micheals 6

Fish this one at wrong time and it is hard.
Spring & Autumn again get best results.
Good Chub and Roach with plenty of Dace. Trot the far bank for results.

Fishery Fields 1

Pike country! - As with the real venue this peg holds good pike. All other species are here also. This is the first tidal peg - you will encounter flounder from time to time also. These small sea fish get stranded on the tides but seem to survive on the sandy river bed. Rolling a deadbait along the far reeds will get those Pike.

Fishery Fields
2 & 3

The fish are bigger down here and both pegs are tidal. Ledgering works well or trotting the faster water for Dace.
Eels and Flounder can be a problem. Big Chub & Roach are present.
Both pegs have a tree and the end of the peg - a good spot to try.
For eel freeline caster down to the tree in the water
